Protection from hull to superstructure
Painting & Coatings
Coating work starts before the first coat is applied. Cleaning, removing deteriorated coatings and preparing the surface are essential stages, whether the work concerns the underwater hull, a deck or a technical space.
Martinique Shipyard provides surface preparation and marine coating services in collaboration with our partner SIPA, during scheduled maintenance, technical stops and refits. Works cover underwater hull areas, topsides, decks, superstructures and technical spaces.
Our capabilities
Our teams and specialist partners can provide:
• High-pressure hull cleaning
• Hydroblasting and sanding
• Surface preparation and treatment of corroded areas
• Application of marine protective coating systems
• Antifouling application
• Hull, deck and superstructure painting
• Specialist coatings for ballast tanks and other tanks
• Localised touch-ups and recoating following steelwork, welding or other repairs
Preparation, repairs and coating in one schedule
A dedicated project manager coordinates surface preparation and coating application with hull repairs, mechanical works and piping interventions.
The schedule takes account of access requirements, application conditions and drying or curing times. For masts and superstructures, suitable access arrangements are organised for the painting teams to work at height.
FS 733 Ventôse Project
A large-scale hull and superstructure coating project
During the French Navy frigate Ventôse’s technical stop, teams working at Martinique Shipyard carried out surface treatment and recoating of 1,788 m² of underwater hull and approximately 900 m² of topsides and superstructures.
The coating works formed part of a yard stay lasting more than two months, alongside mechanical, steel and piping interventions.
The project illustrates the coordination required to carry out extensive coating works while other trades are working on the same vessel.
Planning surface treatment or coating works?
Send us your vessel specifications, the areas to be treated and your scope of work. Photographs and any existing coating specifications will help our team review your requirements and plan the different stages.
